Namutumba woman MP donates iron sheets to Nabweyo sub-county

BY ALIBAWA SAIRE.

85 donated iron sheets being offloaded .

In the  heart of Namutumba’s land,
A woman of strength and grace does stand,
Hon. Naigaga Mariam, the woman member of Parliament for Namutumba District.            true and bold, Fulfilling promises, and breaking the mould. The legislator today recapitulated her pledge and indeed delivered 85 iron sheets worth ugsh 3,900,000 to the Nabweyo sub-county fraternity to aid in the completion of the administration block which came to a standstill due to insufficient funds.

Hon Mariam Naigaga noted the need to support sub-counties to effect service delivery since the government sometimes lack enough money to execute their mandatory obligations in the stipulated time. She cautioned on the misappropriation of these iron sheets by calling on the technical wing to refrain from any act that would shatter their reputations.

In August’s heat, during the parish model sensitization campaigns, in her words did pledge to support government projects,
To nourish minds, to help them edge closer to a future with bright and clear progress.
Through education, health, and community welfare. She commended the education department for the relentless and strenuous efforts exhibited in the concluded primary leaving examinations where Namutumba managed to scoop 221 first grades, a pass rate of 83.2% and a failure rate of 17%.

And to PDM beneficiaries, she cited the need to stick to the seven core pillars of the model, but with stringent attention to the mindset pillar. She briefed members to delineate from projects they are not well conversant with and emulate the technical guidance provided by the staff as they wait for the second batch of funds to be dispatched soon.

Local Leaders led by Kiyemba Mukoka, the Local council’s three chairpersons applauded the legislature for having a giving heart and requested him to continue lobbying for them, especially a health facility since many people are burdened with walking long distances to the nearby health centre. With iron sheets delivered, you gift a dream to build a block, a shining gleam, service delivery improvement and hope, hence guiding future paths, and saving resources.

The democratic party cadre however emphasised the need to focus on initiatives that enhance service delivery in the district. He tasked the legislature to consider rehabilitation of Nabweyo-Kaliro road which has claimed the lives of many citizens. He advised fellow councillors to stop indulging in nonsensical arguments and switch focus to service delivery.

Mwemeke Juliet, the sub-county, says this is a good initiative that will see them effectively run their operations to deliver quality services to the citizens. She thanked the area member of Parliament for the unwavering support and placid character as evinced in fulfilling her pledge. The senior assistant secretary, committed to duly using the provided iron sheets for the purposes intended.

Girls resort to unfamiliar unsanitary menstrual alternatives in Busoga

BY ALIBAWA SAIRE .

A piece of mattress is cut , washed and becomes reusable pad.

In Buyala Village Budondo sub-county, Jinja district. Amidst the struggle to make ends meet, there is a silent crisis as young school girls face challenges accessing proper sanitary pads since destitution has become a major problem in the region. Desperate measures hence emerge as girls try to grapple with menstruation quandary. They resort to unsanitary means to address menstrual hygiene, using polythene bags, sand and even torn dirty mattresses.

Liz (not her real name) a senior four student says she has been using this method since 2019. She delineates that she learned this method from her grandmother. Soil is packed measurably into two polythene bags, small holes are then created and wrapped in a cloth and then placed in the middle of the nickers. to absorb the menses. She relates internal truancy and isolation from her fellows during her menstruation for fear of blood dotting her clothes and embarrassment since it’s not an efficient method.

Another primary six pupil, who first experienced menstruation in 2023, recounted how she started menstruation and her parents were unable to provide money to buy pads since they at times go hungry without money to spend on food Her only option was to cut small pieces of mattress, which she uses to pad herself.

Sand wrapped with a face towel acts as a pad.

Unfortunately,  these young girls have no idea of the various infections they can contract by using these primitive methods and besides they have no other option since they can not afford to buy them.

Despite the efforts by civil society organizations to educate teens on hygienic menstruation, many families cannot afford all the costs of buying pads. They noted that the government is too parsimonious to provide sanitary wear to girls whilst they can not fulfill their pledges, they should markdown on the sanitary pad prices to become affordable to people, a pad currently in Uganda costs between UG. shs  3000 and 5000

Claire Ataliba. A senior nursing officer at Budondo Health Centre 1V warns of the health risks associated with these methods, she maintains that the soils cause discomfort and make them susceptible to serious urinary tract infections

While campaigning in the Lango sub-region in 2015, President Museveni promised that if elected back into power, his government would provide school-going girls with sanitary pads so that they do not run out of school when their menstruation starts.
The promise was supposed to be effected in the 2017/2018 financial year budget in which the sector has been allocated Shs2.8 trillion.
However, the government through the education minister, Ms Janet Museveni expressed regrets about  the president’s pledge to supply sanitary pads to primary schools  citing that such a project requires huge amounts of funds to cover the entire country and to be sustainable.

The girls in the region request to be provided with sewing machines for their sustainability since they can not be dependent on people each time they need to purchase sanitary pads

Dr Jimmy Spire Sentongo exposes the Mglsd and private labour exportation companies.

Writes Alibawa saire

Reports indicate that as of 2023, remittance to Uganda grew to US dollars 1.21 billion boosted by recipients from labour exports to Middle Eastern countries.

Over 600,000 ugandans are doing odd jobs in the middle east as reported by the uganda association of recruitment agencies. Most of them are working either as cleaners, waiters/waitresses, drivers, construction and factory workers or guards.

From potholes exhibition to labour exhibition. The popular cartoonist, Arthur, a lecturer, and yet a columnist with the observer, a celebrated online activist, Dr Jimmy Spire Sentongo has exposed the Mglsd through his popular hashtag activism. The labour exhibition challenge gigs this time dubbed #Labour exportation challenge. The exhibition is aimed at exposing the impunity, rogues in the labour industry with the hope of reminding the Mglsd of the occurrences happening, perhaps without their knowledge.

A satirical illustration of labour exportation, by Jimmy spire Sentongo.

Ugandans, especially those who have been to Arab countries for green pastures( Kyeyo) pinned the labour exportation companies for their mischievous traits, recklessness, and paying a deaf ear in ill-starred circumstances. The pain our brothers and sisters go through is perhaps unbearable but simply have to endure it to make ends meet. Many of them especially the beautiful girls have been coerced into sexual activities by the company bosses just to have them qualify to be exported and compelling them to skip relevant medical tests in the interest of making it to the Arab countries.

The exhibitors noted that suffering starts from here, weeks or days before exportation. They are made to live in unsanitary places, feed once or go hungry on just water under the pretence of teaching them how to behave while with the sadistic Arabs. The exhibitors decried the poor working conditions in the Middle East which included confiscation of their passports upon arrival in the Middle East, poor treatment from their bosses, going months without salary, feeding on leftover food and at worst  mysterious deaths.

A Ugandan, in the Middle East, seeking help.

“What’s challenging is that most of these companies connive with television and radio stations to advertise their works intently aiming at winning trust from the vulnerable and desperate Ugandans seeking employment, and then after robbing they disappear and only surface through a different name to push their agendas ahead” an exhibitor who preferred anonymity, noted”.

The Mglsd through Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Elegu vehemently refuted the allegations brought forth on his twitter handle, asserting that the Mglsd is solely committed to serving the interests of the Ugandans and that all the exhibitions raised are not true.”If any domestic worker is travelling to any country other than the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that person is being trafficked, and the company or individual that’s deploying her is a trafficker. Alert the Mglsd_UG” says Dr. Lawrence Egulu.

The labour exportation challenge has since seen many political leaders pick interest in it. Ibrahim Ssemujju (Kira Municipality) has called for the establishment of an Evacuation Fund, whose funds will be used by Gov’t to evacuate migrant workers who face inhumane mistreatment while employed abroad, warning that a total ban on labour exportation would create a crisis given the high unemployment rates in

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi urged MPs to follow the grotesque stories that are being told by the external labour workers that are being exposed on social media to understand the ordeal these workers go through while working abroad and elucidate on the matter.

7 things men over 30 should never wear.

By Alibawa saire.

1. Wearing graphic-printed T-shirts or slogan T-shirts with loud logos

Any middle-aged man who still wears t-shirts that have a large skull with inscriptions on them or a dragon spitting fire plastered on them doesn’t want to accept his real age.
There is no reason why any man above 30 should be dressed in any T-shirt meant for young boys or boy bands.

When looking for nice T-shirts to buy, you should stick to simple but classic T-shirts with a tiny or no logo. Ralph Lauren Polo and Lacoste t-shirts are a good idea

2. Wearing a T-shirt but showing too much chest

There is simply no justifiable excuse for a 30-year-old man to show too much chest when wearing a shirt. It doesn’t matter if you have a broad, hairy chest and you find it sexy enough to display to ladies in hopes that they can find it attractive. You should never undo more than two buttons on your dress shirt.

3. Wearing socks with sandals

There is no excuse for taking part in this fashion faux pas unless you are 30+ and still in secondary school. Then perhaps people can assume it’s part of your school uniform or dress code. Think about it: sandals are meant for cool comfort and ventilation; why then would you want to add socks to defeat the whole purpose?
For those who claim, “My feet are cold; that’s why I wear them,” I have a solution for you: wear close-toed shoes.

4. Wearing white socks with dress shoes

If you are 30 and still in primary or secondary school, then you might skip this part.

But if you are a 30-plus working professional or businessman, you should never wear white socks for any occasion other than sports or to the gym.

Choose navy blue or black socks instead; no matter what you are wearing, you can never go wrong with these two colours, but if you are more fashion-forward, try out some colourful socks.

5. Wearing a backpack with a suit or native wear

This is very common among professionals, even the ones over 30. It’s highly unprofessional to wear a backpack with a suit.

While these backpacks are okay for students, any middle-aged man is better served by a sleek and stylish leather briefcase or messenger bag that hangs across your chest.

6. Wearing wrinkled clothes

Looking like you slept in your clothes is highly inappropriate. At 30, you should not have any excuse for arriving at any place—work or social function—wearing wrinkled clothing.

Keep all your clothes neatly ironed and wrinkle-free using spray starch, or better yet, invest in a good dry cleaning service; they are well-trained to take care of your clothes and are never going to deliver a wrinkled shirt to you. Also, it’s a good habit to always hang up all your clothes—never throw them on the floor of your room after use

7. Wearing a visible undershirt underneath a button-up shirt

An undershirt popping out of your dress shirt doesn’t look good at all. If you must wear an undershirt when wearing a button-up shirt, you should choose the V-neck type, which by default sits lower.

If you have also noticed, most designer shirt brands that manufacture round neck undershirts design the round neck to have a low cut, so you could go for these types.

For instance, the LUX brand. This goes a long way toward showing you the importance of concealing the neck region of your undershirt when wearing a button-up

Are u frightened?.. How to deal with fear.

By Alibawa saire.

The truth is that fear is a product of our mindset.

One of the most famous Stoic philosophers, Seneca, believed that fear is not a sign of weakness but rather a natural human emotion. In fact, he believed that fear can be useful in helping us prepare for potential obstacles and challenges.

Fear, in its essence, is an emotional response to a perceived threat or danger. It is a primal instinct, hardwired into our very being, intended to protect us from harm. However, in our complex modern lives, fear often arises not from immediate physical dangers but from anxieties, uncertainties, and our interpretations of potential negative

Instead of being paralyzed by fears, we should embrace them as an inherent part of the human experience, something that is stitched into our very nature, making us who we are. Our fear is not an insurmountable monster looming in the shadows, waiting to hijack our thoughts and actions, but a psychological phenomenon that we can develop the self-awareness to catch in the moment, understand, examine, and navigate with wisdom.

It’s important to recognize that not all fear is detrimental. After all, no one wants to get hit by a car because their fear response doesn’t keep them from walking on the highway. The Stoics did not suggest that we should strive to eliminate fear altogether. Instead, they saw rational fear—fear that acknowledges genuine danger and promotes sensible caution—as an essential tool for survival. What they warned against was irrational fear—fear that is rooted in false judgments and misconceptions, causing unnecessary anxiety and distress.

To overcome fear, we needed to examine our fears, hold them up to the light, and decide whether or not they were reasonable and we were right to be worried, or if they were unreasonable and caused by a false perception of the subject. The belief that we can work through fear is the first step towards transforming our relationship with it, shifting from being victims of fear to becoming navigators of a complex emotion.

THE PRACTICE OF OBJECTIVE JUDGEMENT
Often, our ability to make judgments about what we experience is seen as the characteristic that separates us as humans from the rest of the animal kingdom.

THE POWER OF NEGATIVE VISUALIZATION
There is another technique that might seem counterintuitive at first glance. And while, alone, it may increase the feeling of fear instead of lessening it, when used with objective judgment, it can help us face the very things we fear, and come away with the knowledge that we can pass through them undisturbed.

Negative visualization is the Stoic technique known as ‘premeditatio malorum’, which means ‘the premeditation of evils’. It is the practice of looking into our future, deliberately visualizing worst-case scenarios, and learning to come to terms with them if they do in fact come to pass.

PRACTICING ACCEPTANCE
acceptance is our ability to look at, see, and come to terms with the things around us that we have no control over.

I will state at this point that acceptance is not the same as passive surrender or submission to the world around us. We simply can look at our situation objectively and accept that it is the way it is, rather than waste time wishing it were different. From here, we can move forward with a clear map of our terrain, focusing on our actions and what we can control.

Bobi Wine blasts UN Secretary-General. Your presence in Uganda is useless if you do not talk about the real challenges.

By ALIBAWA SAIRE

Speaking at the G-77 and China, the UN secretary General, Antonio Guterres embarked his speech on the sustainable development goals, he noted that we are going backward in achieving the sustainable development goals, where people are going hungry and communities lack access to health care, clean water, electricity and proper sanitation. He also noted that during the the COP28, countries operationalized the long awaited loss and damage fund to support those countries most vulnerable to the devastation brought by climate changes, however he noted that contributions so far have been minimal.

The UN SECRETARY-GENERAL, addressing the media in uganda/G-77 and China summit 2024

The secret General also noted that “The destruction of Gaza and the number of civilian casualties caused by the Israeli Army in such a short period are unprecedented during my mandate” adding that the Relentless Israeli bombardment of Gaza in response to the horrific Terror attacks by Hamas is the most intensely destructive campaign ever since I became the UN Secretary-General.

His message to the Non-Aligned Movement and the G77+China was focusing on renewed international efforts for peace, financing for sustainable development, and climate action. Digital technologies have enormous potential for good and inflaming inequalities. The secretary general warned about artificial intelligence. “IMF warns that Artificial Intelligence could make things even worse.”

These words however didn’t seem appealing to the NUP principal, H.E Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu. He was very furious that the UN secretary General whose cardinal role is to contribute actively to the implementation , protection and in particular, the Secretary-General is mandated to bring issues or situations threatening the maintenance of peace and security, including those where atrocity crimes are likely to occur or are ongoing, to the attention of other United Nations organs.

On his maiden appearance in Uganda, the secretary General could not vehemently talk about the pressing human rights violations in Uganda, rigging of elections, military trials of political opponents, the plunder and humanitarian crisis in DRC, closure of the UN offices by the incumbent president YK Museveni and the ongoing house arrests. The principal questioned How can you come all the way and not say anything about these issues? The UN must stand on the values it purports to represent. Otherwise, it’ll be reduced to a club of tyrants and attract resistance from the suffering people of the world.

The NUP president responding to the speech by the UN Secretary-General.

The NUP principal also castigated that despite UN secretary-General’spresence in Uganda, many of the political leaders including Dr.Kizza Besigye, the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago were held under house arrest with heavy security deployment around their residences. Stationery patrol cars with security men taking no chance to let anyone come close to their premises.

The preventive house arrest of the key political figures was done following the planned country-wide banana tree planting demonstrations in the potholes around all roads to show dissatisfaction with the way the tax payer’s money is handled by those at the helm of the government institutions.

Despite the police’s efforts to detain The NUP principal, he successfully sneaked out of his premises incognito and joined the rest of the comrades in a struggle to fulfil their planned exhibition in the city. He was pictured planting banana plants in the potholes around makindye division.

Using satire and humour to evoke better service delivery.

BY. ALIBAWA SAIRE.

Although satire is usually meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit to draw attention to both particular and wider issues in society.  In which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, often with the intent of exposing or shaming the perceived flaws of individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement.

The rules of satire are such that ” it must do more than make you laugh. No matter how amusing it is, it doesn’t count unless you find yourself wincing a little even as you chuckle”

Humor and satire can be employed to reach various objectives in support of your cause, such as attracting attention and interest from the public and media, breaking the ice with supporters and allies, reducing fear and anxiety among participants and potential recruits, creating a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for events and campaigns, disarming and mocking opponents and their arguments, exposing the absurdity of the dominant system and its institutions, and inspiring hope for change and alternatives.

Humor and satire can be utilized to make a point, deliver a message, and provoke a reaction. When using these techniques, it’s important to consider your audience, purpose, tone, and format. For instance, who are you trying to reach and influence? What do they care about? What do you want to achieve with your humor and satire? Do you want to use words, images, sounds, or actions? Additionally, how do you want to express your humor and satire – subtly or blatantly, friendly or hostile, witty or sarcastic, playful or serious? Answering these questions can help you create effective humor and satire that resonates with your audience.

The ongoing banana tree planting in potholes across the country only illustrates the dissatisfaction of the community who are burdened with paying heavy taxes and don’t receive proper services. In a city filled with potholes left, right, and centre. Spending lots of hours maneuvering through the city and putting drivers in a spot to exercise their driving skills by dodging potholes, is not what an obliging taxpayer can expect. Therefore Planting banana trees in the potholes only makes it visible and a reminder to the government to fully follow its mandatory obligations not only for the speaker’s convention but for the good of the nation.

Let’s not forget, that when the popular inventor of the exhibition challenge, Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo orchestrated the rouges and impunities in different sectors, at least there was an overhaul and improvement in some sectors like roads, health, etc..

Improving a few parts around Munyonyo and Serena for the NAM and G-77 summits only gives the community the enthusiasm to depict more satirical illustrations. While these banana planting brings a smile to people’s faces, they also highlight the absurdity of the situation. People love to see all parts of the city convenient for the community after all Its their money and indeed have to be kept in the know of how their money is spent.

In a televised interview with NTV’s Patrick Kamara, on 18th Jan 2024, The Ugandan prime minister, the Rt. Hon Robinah Nabbanja refuted claims that the city is in a bad state and seems not to see these potholes, perhaps because she travels in posh cars. However literally to our understanding and viewing, besides the NAM and G-77 summit, the city pothole needs urgent attention as evidenced by your selves. Nevertheless, the satirical illustrations wouldn’t be happening if the city was in good shape.

Let’s embrace satire and humour, together if we do so, we shall end up with our thoughts and ideas recognised. The responsible and those in Power will feel the urge to exhibit their mandatory responsibilities.

Namutumba mourns the death of Parish chief, Nakato Hadijja.

BY ALIBAWA SAIRE

The late Nakato Hadijja shortly before death would robe her.

Namutumba District parish chief is dead.

Nakato died on Wednesday, January 17 in Mulago National Referal Hospital. The cause of her death however remains uncertain although close sources confirm that she succumbed to organ failure after spending close to two days in the intensive care unit.

The news of Nakato’s sudden passing has spread throughout Namutumba, leaving parish chiefs, residents, close friends, and family in a state of disbelief and profound grief.

Eulogies and heartfelt tributes have flooded in, painting a vivid picture of a woman who was cherished and respected by many.

Hajjira Baziba, among those mourning Nakato’s loss, reflected, “She was a remarkable friend who transcended all boundaries—age, religion, profession, or clan.”

Nakato’s legacy extended beyond personal connections, as she led significant community projects, was a guiding light, and very phenomenal in the Parish development model, sensitizing and teaching the community the core pillars of the model,SAGE (Elderly grant).

The sentiment was echoed by Tabingwa Scarlet, another close associate and workmate, who struggled to contain her grief, reminiscing about a recent conversation filled with laughter, a testament to Nakato’s infectious and lively nature. “She felt like family; her sudden absence is unfathomable,” Scarlet shared.

Mr.Waako Stephen, the District Commercial Officer, expressed deep sorrow, on his social media platform describing the incident as fateful and decided to halt the scheduled re-fresher training for the pdm executive Sacco members, to accord respect to the late.

Nakato was my closest friend, someone I trusted and confided in. His loss leaves a void that cannot easily be filled. We have lost a good person and a dear friend.” Wrote Nakiswa Ali who hails from where the deceased was working as a Parish chief.

As the community grapples with this unexpected loss, the legacy of Nakato Hadijja—a mentor, philanthropist, and compassionate friend—remains indelible in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her passing leaves a profound void, marking the end of a life cherished by many and celebrated for its kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Learn to Value what you hold!

By Alibawa Saire

Learn to value what you have at hand, learn to embrace what you have currently, many of us fail to realise that we are holding something great, we fail to realise that what we have is beyond a blessing, we also fail to see the good in it, why does man always dream of things that are out of reach?? It’s good to dream, very ok, but all dreams start small, they start with aplan, we build dreams, we don’t just land on them from the blue.

From the Bible we see Musa bearing a stick, he is meant to use it for a certain purpose that he doesn’t know, God chooses to send him to deliver the Israelites from Egypt, covered with fear,Musa claims he cannot go there, he tells the Lord that he doesn’t have that power, he freaks out. But the Lord tells him, he actually asks him! “What are you holding”? Musa replies, “a stick”. Yes the Lord tells him ,what you’re holding is not just a stick, it’s a power filled stick, use it and strike the sea, it will spread wide open and out of faith,Musa obeys!!

So what does this mean to you! What do you learn from this story, What does Musa’s reaction tell you! Are you such a pagan that you can’t see and utilise the strength with in you? What are you waiting for to realise the power with in you?

You have been looking for jobs on the streets of Kampala for over 5 years, you have not succeeded, but you forget that back home, your father has over 10 idle acres of land! So what are you holding? Don’t you think there’s a blessing your trying to look down on! Go back and invest in that farm land, you will grow bigger and better!

Tomorrow you have a job interview but you are full of the “what if” ideology! So what does it mean? Don’t forget that you are holding a power that can do all tasks lying ahead, prepare yourself and face the interviews, don’t compare yourself with the rest, it’s you against them, not them against you! Realise that you have the potential to accomplish all tasks ahead of you.

You wanna get married but you have the “what if” mindset, you keep asking yourself, what if I don’t give birth? Why do you let negativity take over you! You should realise that you are fruitful ,God never made you to be barren! Go get married and bear children. Sometimes you cause a storm for yourself and fail to accommodate the down pour! Always look out for the sunshine bigtime.

Time comes and you wanna build a house but still you have that “what if” attitude! Get to work and start planning your construction, never think of what if I fail to complete, never, that shouldn’t be you! Realise that you have that ability to do all things with faith, every step starts with one count and all steps count.

Yes many times you will encounter challenges, will you just pull out when you get sick! Will you just pull out when you miss a flight! Will you just pull out when business doesn’t work out good! Will you just pull out when you fail to excel academically yet you involved alot of effort! Will you just pull out just because your work mates hate you! Will you just pull out just because your current job is so stressful! Will you just pull out just because everybody judges you falsely! Am asking will you just pull out just because you cannot afford three meals a day? You should realise that you posses what no other person possesses, it lies with in you! Build up your faith and attack all challenges with prayer. And remember you have to do and work on that plan, prayer and doing go hand in hand, don’t expect to gain everything without putting in some labour, work hard and pray hard!

If you fail to value what you hold, then what you hold will value you as clueless and brainless..am not abusing you, am showing you your worth.Small things that we under look matter most, they are the strongest pillars for you to lay a platform.

What you have at hand is big, you have the brain, you have the eyes to see, you have the ears to listen, you have the legs to walk, you are rich! I guess you have come across people with disabilities that cannot support themselves ,but atleast they also extend a hand in labour, lame people do work too, blind people do work too, even the deaf do hustle, so you who is blessed with all senses, why do you keep lamenting? You have a house to stay, you have food, you have clothes ,you access water, you have friends and you have parents, utilise them, stop cursing yourself!
